Atascadero Section

 

Atascadero, which to the native Chumash indians means " muddy place " marks the halfway point between Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This section runs completely along El Camino Real from the "Garden Farms" north through the city of Atascadero, and ending at the intersection of Del Rio Rd. and the current freeway. The only deviation of the original route is a small area along Viejo Camino Rd., where the original route apparantly took the lower route around a hill.
