Frequently Asked Questions

What is a panoramic image?

A panoramic image is a picture that shows a view of 180 degrees of more. They can be taken either with traditional film cameras, or with high resolution digital cameras. I use a 5.2 megapixel digital camera for taking the panoramic images, and a special panoramic optic that allows the capture of a complete 360 degree view with one shot.

What are the benefits of adding panoramics to a web site?

Panoramics give your website guest a unique, informative, and fun way to view the images that you want them to see. In a interactive way, they get a much more complete view, as they are able to rotate, tilt, and zoom in and out, in an entire 360 degree perspective.

Is it difficult to add DW360 panoramics to my web site?

Not at all. I can work directly with your webmaster or yourself to easily provide the images and code to incorporate the panoramics into your site. I can provide all the files on a CD for use on your site directly, or images can be maintained on the DW360.com website, and linked to from pages on your site.

Do the panoramics slow down the loading of my web pages?

No. The preferred way to offer the panoramic views to you website guest is to provide a link on the page. The panoramic only loads when that link is clicked, so your page loading is not affected. Depending on the size of the image used, and the connection speed of your guest, the panoramic will take a few seconds to load up. If you feel that the image is taking too long to load, it can be adjusted to load more quickly.

Do the panoramics require special plug-ins to view?

No. I use the ptviewer javascript panoramic viewer software for all my panoramic images. It does not require any special plug-ins to be viewed on browsers, but the browser does need to have javascript enabled in it's settings. All the most popular browsers now come with javascript enabled by default.

When is the best time to schedule the pictures to be taken?

Weekends are normally the best time to have the pictures taken, but other days can be scheduled as needed. Because of the necessity of using available light on indoor pictures, and to avoid sun glare on outdoor shots, late morning and early afternoon sessions can achieve the best results. I also have the capability of using strobe lighting on rooms or areas smaller than 25 feet in diameter, and those can be done at any time.

How much does it cost?

I consider my pricing as very reasonable, but exact cost depends mainly on the needs of the customer. Number of pictures to be taken, how many virtual tours, galleries, and separate viewers that need to be created or linked to, hosting requirements, and other factors need to be considered in order to determine exact cost. Quotes can be provided after an initial consultation.

Can I have regular photographs taken in addition to the panoramics?

Sure. As long as you have the place all fixed up for the panoramic shots, why not have a few regular pictures taken at the same time? You can use them in the future, for thumbnails, other photos or links on your web pages, or whatever. They will be taken at maximum resolution, and can always be adjusted for any kind of use on the web, or hard copy.

Can I preview the images before putting them on my web site?

Yes. I will provide you by E-mail, a secure link to a location on the DW360.com website where you can preview the images. Adjustments can be made at that time, and reshoots can be scheduled if necessary.

There are other panoramic services. Why should I choose DW360.com?

In short... personal touch. I'm a local photographer and an artist, that just happens to know a few things about computing, and the Internet. I'm not a national corporation. I'm only interested in working with businesses and individuals in the beautiful Central Coast of California, where I live. I'm not out to interfere or take over any control of your website, but only to work with you, and/or your webmaster to enhance it, and make it a more informative and pleasurable experience for your visitors.
